Departmental Lecturer in International Human Rights and Refugee Law

The Oxford Department of International Development seeks applications for a Departmental Lectureship in International Human Rights and Refugee Law. The postholder will be responsible to the Head of Department, Professor Christopher Adam, and will provide cover for the research leave of Dr Cathryn Costello, the Andrew W Mellon Associate Professor in International Human Rights and Refugee Law.
The postholder will teach both core and optional law courses on the MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies and on the MPhil in Development Studies, and engage in research on themes in international refugee law. S/he will form part of the core academic staff of the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC), a constituent element of the Department of International Development, and the leading academic centre in the UK and Europe on refugee and forced migration issues. The post is full-time and tenable for 36 months, from 1 September 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Applicants should have: a doctorate in law or a closely related discipline with strong content in international refugee and/or human rights law pertaining to forced migration, displacement or related topics, or the ability to demonstrate equivalent expertise and/or scholarly accomplishment; an outstanding research record, commensurate with experience, and an interest in applied and policy issues in the fields of human rights and refugees; an academic publication record commensurate with stage of career; university teaching experience in law at the postgraduate level, including thesis supervision; experience of assessment and administration of degree programmes; sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge in the subject to develop course materials and research proposals; the ability and commitment to participate in the wider academic activities of the Refugee Studies Centre and the wider department; and the ability to contribute effectively to the administrative work of the department and to work effectively with colleagues as part of an interdisciplinary team.
