PhD Research Fellowship on the Extreme Right, Hate Crime and Political Violence

The Department of Political Science hereby announces a vacant position as PhD Research Fellow at the Center for Research on Extremism (C-REX). C-REX is a cross-disciplinary center for the study of right-wing extremism, hate crime and political violence. C-REX is a joint collaboration with five of the leading Norwegian institutions and three of the leading international universities on extremism research. http://www.sv.uio.no/c-rex

The person appointed may choose between a three year-appointment with no teaching requirement, or an appointment for a period of four years with a 25 per cent teaching requirement. In the Department of Political Science teaching is organized into five sections: public policy and administration, comparative politics, political theory, international politics, and research methods. Candidates will be part of the Faculty's PhD programme and the work performed will be expected to lead to a PhD in Political Science.

Qualifications

To be appointed to the position, the successful candidate must have a Master's degree (120 ECTS) or an equivalent qualification in Political Science.  The Master's degree must include a thesis of at least 30 ECTS, and training in research methodology.  In evaluating applications, academic qualifications and the project outline will be given more weight than other disciplinary and general qualifications. Successful candidates must document top grades and an MA Thesis of the highest quality. Personal suitability will also be an important factor. Short-listed applicants will be called for interview.

Applicants must submit a project description of up to 3000 words outlining the research topic, the specific problems to be studied, the sources of data to be used, the choice of scientific theory and method, and a realistic schedule that details how the project will be completed within the fellowship period.

  • List of publications and academic work that the applicant wishes to be considered by the evaluation committee
  • Please note: All documentation, the Master's dissertation included, must be in English or in a Scandinavian language (or translated into English/Scandinavian by a certified translator).
