TSINGHUA-MICHIGAN FELLOWSHIP

Each Fellow has a three-year, non-renewable appointment in the Institute for World Literatures and Cultures (IWLC) at Tsinghua University. The current annual compensation is 300,000 RMB (approximately 46,340 USD). Fellows are also entitled to a medical program, university subsidized housing, and round-trip air fare to Beijing.

The working language of the Society is English, and no experience or expertise in Chinese Studies is required or expected of fellowship applicants. Each year, an orientation program will be provided for incoming fellows.

Fellows are housed in the Institute for World Literatures and Cultures (IWLC) of Tsinghua University, which arranges their teaching and administers their affiliations with Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and other appropriate departments in the School of the Humanities at Tsinghua University. Fellows are expected to be in residence at Tsinghua University during regular academic semesters and to participate fully in the activities at IWLC as well as in the Departments/Schools where they are affiliated.

Fellows are provided with unshared office space at IWLC and library privileges.

Fellows are expected to participate in the activities of the Tsinghua-Michigan Society for three full academic years. If they depart before the end of the third year, the remaining funding is forfeited.

Fellows are expected to teach six semester-long small seminars during their three years at Tsinghua at IWLC. The remainder of their time will be devoted to their research activities.

Fellows may apply to spend up to one semester of their fellowship term in residence at the University of Michigan Society of Fellows.

Publications

Fellows are asked to cite their affiliation with the Tsinghua-Michigan Society of Fellows in any publications that result from work done during their tenure and to provide the Society with copies of such published work.

Report on Scholarship

At the end of each fellowship year, Fellows are asked to submit a written report on their activities and accomplishments during that year.
