Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Systems (Security and Privacy) (Fixed Term)

Research Associate: £30,175 - £38,183 or Senior Research Associate: £39,324 - £49,772

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 36 months in the first instance.

Applications are invited for a position to investigate systems security, privacy, and compliance.

The focus is on better aligning technology with legal concerns, through means for improving transparency, trust and control in systems. The position is part of a new group being formed to explore the tech-legal aspects of emerging technologies.

We seek candidates with a strong Computer Science/Engineering background in relevant areas, such as security, privacy, data management, provenance & audit, policy-enforcement, trusted computing platforms, and so forth. Required is a general knowledge of distributed systems, cloud, the Internet of Things, etc. An interest in the legal, compliance and/or the social impacts of technology is also desirable.

Given the academic and engineering aspects of this role, candidates should demonstrate their ability to perform internationally-leading systems research, and provide evidence of relevant programming experience (where possible).

Candidates will hold a PhD or have equivalent experience. Candidates who are close to submitting a PhD will be considered for appointment as a Research Associate. Exceptionally qualified candidates may be appointed as a Senior Research Associate.

The suggested start date is October 2017, though some flexibility is possible.

SALARY

£30,175 - £38,183 or
£39,324 - £49,772
