About the Scholarship

The UN Women National Committee Australia supports the work of UN Women by raising public awareness of gender and development issues. Through education women gain the knowledge to put in place policies, services and resources to fulfil the UN Women’s mission for gender equality and the empowerment of women.
To advance our shared commitment to women’s leadership and accelerating progress towards gender equality, the University of Sydney Business School and the National Committee for UN Women are pleased to offer the ‘UN Women National Committee Australia Global Executive MBA Scholarship’.

Eligibility

Open to all women who meet the eligibility criteria for admission to the degree, Executive Master of Business Administration. Applicants need not have applied for the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) prior to applying for the scholarship, however only those applicants deemed eligible for entry to the EMBA via the prevailing admissions processes are eligible to be awarded the scholarship.

The degree is currently not available to international students requiring a student visa. Employees of The University of Sydney or UN Women National Committee Australia are ineligible to apply. Women applicants who meet the eligibility criteria for admission to the degree, Executive Master of Business Administration, can apply for the UN Women National Committee Australia Global Executive MBA Scholarship.

To be considered for award of the scholarship, all applicants must be available to attend, in-person, the following events:

Thursday 24 November, 2016 Discussion Forum
Thursday 8 December, 2016 Finalist Interviews

The above events take place at the University of Sydney Business School CBD Campus.

Selection process

1.

Applications available online for the UN Women National Committee Australia Global Executive MBA Scholarship.
Applicants must use the online form to submit their personal details, curriculum vitae, a copy of their academic transcript and a one to two page statement detailing;

a). how they demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Leadership experience and potential in their chosen field
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing women’s leadership
  • An interest in international relations, gender and development
  • A passion for using business skills to drive social change

b). what the applicant hopes to achieve professionally and personally by completing the University of Sydney Global Executive MBA.

Applications close 11.59pm, Sunday 20 November 2016.

All eligible applicants attend, in-person, a group discussion forum. Further details to be provided.

3.

Upon conclusion of the discussion forum, applicants will be invited to submit a 1-2 page reflective essay, with specific details to be provided at the forum.

The UN Women National Committee Australia Global Executive MBA Scholarship selection committee will shortlist a maximum of three (3) applicants to progress to interview stage.

Friday 2 December, 2016

Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a program eligibility interview with the Global Executive MBA selection committee either in-person or remotely via telephone or video conference.

Tuesday 6 December, 2016

Value

The scholarship covers 66% of the tuition fees for the Executive Master of Business Administration.

The scholarship is tenable for the 1.5 year span of the degree, where the Recipient fulfils requirements for the award of the degree. The recipient must maintain a minimum enrolment load of two units (24 credit points) of study each semester.

Scholarship payment is applied to the Student’s tuition fees following the semester census dates of 31 March and 31 August. Prior to census date and after the student has been recorded to the award the student’s fee statement will reflect that 66% of their tuition fees is liable to Third Party.

The recipient receiving this award is required to pay the balance of their tuition fees, their Student Services and Amenities fee and the relevant in-country fees for each residential Unit of Study.

The following outlines the steps involved in the application and selection process:
Applicants are required to complete the UN Women National Committee Australia Scholarship online

  1. A)  how they demonstrate the following characteristics:

     Leadership experience and potential in their chosen field
     A demonstrated commitment to enhancing women’s leadership  An interest in international relations, gender and development  A passion for using business skills to drive social change

  2. B)  what the applicant hopes to achieve professionally and personally by completing the University of Sydney Global Executive MBA.

The following outlines the steps involved in the selection process:

  •   following the closing date for the UN Women NC Australia Global Executive MBA Scholarship, all eligible applicants will be invited to a participate in a ‘Discussion Forum’ themed around gender and development issues, hosted at the University of Sydney Business School;

  •   Upon conclusion applicants will be invited to submit a 1-2 page reflective essay, with details to be provided at the Discussion Forum.

  •   The UN Women National Committee Australia Scholarship selection committee will shortlist a maximum of three (3) applicants on the basis of each applicant’s

    - application;

    • -  statement of motivation, and;

    • -  reflective essay.

  •   Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a final interview with the UN Women NC Australia Global Executive MBA Scholarship selection committee, comprising representatives from the UN Women NC Australia and Academic Staff at the Business School.

    The Recipient is chosen by the UN Women NC Australia Global Executive MBA Scholarship selection committee on the basis of the strength of their written submission in response to the scholarship selection criteria, their reflective essay and performance at interview. The Committee will then recommend the Recipient to the Dean, the University of Sydney Business School, for award of the scholarship.

Conditions/prohibitions

The scholarship must be taken up in the semester in which it is offered.

The scholarship holder is not permitted to defer or suspend their enrolment in the degree to receive the scholarship.

The scholarship holder must maintain a continuous enrolment, no leave of absence is allowed, except under exceptional circumstances such as a medical condition which limits the student's capacity to undertake study. Such requests must be supported by the Director, Global Executive MBA.

In the event that the scholarship holder changes degree or discontinues study, the scholarship is no longer tenable.

The award is conditional on the scholar meeting all regulations of the coursework program.
To retain the scholarship, the holder must also achieve a 75% Distinction grade average each semester.

The scholarship may not be held concurrently with other University scholarship funds awarded to assist with the student's tuition fees.

Employees of the University of Sydney or UN Women National Committee Australia are ineligible to apply.

The scholarship holder will be invited to promote the Global Executive MBA program and represent the Business School at student orientation, marketing and corporate networking events.

The balance of tuition fees, the student services and amenities fee (SAF), travel, residential and all other non-tuition costs are payable by the scholarship holder.

NB. Students receiving this scholarship and enrolled in part-time study may be subject to income tax and should check with the Australian Taxation Office or their Accountant for details.
