Financial Support through the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship
The Baden-Württemberg Scholarship
The Baden-Württemberg Scholarship for university students is offered each year to the universities in Baden-Württemberg. The programme’s purpose is to support international exchange between highly qualified German and foreign students. Furthermore, the scholarship programme increases the competitiveness of Baden-Württemberg’s universities for the recruitment of the best internationally mobile students and postgraduates.
The programme addresses all students who are matriculated at one of Baden-Württemberg’s universities and who would like to expand their horizons through a study abroad. The programme additionally applies to foreign students who would like to study abroad in Baden-Württemberg.
Potential Candidates
In order to be able to apply to the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship, students must be either Master, Diplom or Staatsexamen students enrolled at the University of Mannheim who aim to study abroad in a non-European country (incl. Russia) in the fall semester and/or in the spring semester.
Applications from Freemovers are not admitted.
The University of Mannheim can only support European study abroad programmes through the Erasmus Programme.

The Selection Process
The Baden-Württemberg Foundation chooses the final scholarship recipients following a preliminary selection carried out by the University of Mannheim. Decisions will be sent in July for the Fall Semester and in December for the Spring Semester.
Worth and Length of the Scholarships
The foundation determines the amount of money rewarded to scholarship recipients: students receive 600 EUR a month for usually 4 months (it can be fewer months for shorter stays) .
Personal report
At the end of the scholarship, students are expected to write a reflection paper (maximum 5 pages on DIN A4 paper) about their study abroad experience. Please upload the personal report in the BWS World portal four weeks after your study abroad.
Information for Recipients of BaföG
BAföG recipients are still entitled to apply to the full Baden-Württemberg Scholarship, however the scholarship’s full amount will be recorded as income for BAföG. Students must therefore decide for themselves which financial aid option is best for them.
Combination with other Scholarships
Students may not receive any other scholarships specifically aimed at funding studies abroad in addition to the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship. Students must choose the financial aid opportunity they would like to receive.
Other scholarships with differing purposes (e.g. travel costs, free dormitory room) are combinable with a Baden-Württemberg Scholarship.
A combination with Fulbright Reisestipendien is possible.
Please be aware that you are required to disclose whether you have received a Baden-Württemberg Scholarship to other scholarship-granting institutions as well.
