About the summer school

The third Summer School in Ancient Languages will take place at Swansea University from 23rd July – 5thAugust 2017. There will be intensive courses on Beginners, Post-Beginners, Intermediate, Intermediate-Advanced, and Advanced Latin and Greek, as well as Beginners and Post-Beginners Egyptian and Medieval Latin.  These courses correspond to one semester of the language at university. Courses are open to all ages 12+. 12-18 year olds are welcome when accompanied by an adult who takes full responsibility for the child.

The courses will be taught on the campus of Swansea University which won the WhichUni gold award for Best University in 2014: we have the Egypt Centre on site, Swansea beach is but a minute’s walk away, a short bus trip will get participants to the city centre with museums (Swansea Museum, Waterfront Museum, Dylan Thomas Centre etc.) and the Marina, and the beautiful Gower peninsula can be reached by bus from the city centre for those interested in exploring its history and nature. With the many historical sites (not just Roman), the National Botanic Gardens, National Trust and Cadw properties all at less than 40 minutes away, we're ideally located for a language-intensive course with plenty of scope for exploring South Wales.

Classics and Ancient History have come third in the National Student Survey from 2013 to 2015, which demonstrates our strong commitment to student experience. We extend this commitment to Summer School students and look forward to meeting you all in July 2017.
