About the Scholarship
The Faculty of Science is pleased to offer University of Bristol Postgraduate Research Scholarships to UK, EU and international applicants showing exceptional research potential.
These PhD Scholarships include full tuition fees, full stipend at the UK Research Council rate (£14,296 in 2016/17) and, in conjunction with the host School, a contribution to research costs at the UK Research Council level appropriate to the discipline.
The term of funding is 3, 3.5 or 4 years, according to the particular discipline and training programme, and is subject to satisfactory progress.
UK, EU and international scholarships are awarded by schools in the Faculty of Science. Interested applicants should contact the school appropriate to their discipline for information concerning application deadlines and, in some cases, designated eligible research areas. Application deadlines are different between schools, and may be as early as 31 December 2016. It is therefore essential that you contact the relevant schools.
Applicants who wish to be considered for a scholarship should submit their postgraduate online application by the appropriate deadline to ensure they receive full consideration. You should tick the appropriate box in the ‘funding’ section of the online application form; there is also a free text box where you can enter additional information if required.
How to Apply
You can use the online admissions system to:
- submit all your application details securely online and view your completed application form;
- upload supporting documents;
- request references electronically;
- track the progress of your application;
- receive a decision on your application online;
- update your contact details;
- receive useful information about the University and your application.
Guidance for online applications
Create your account
You will need to provide a user name and password so you can return to your application at any time before submission.
Please provide a current email address when creating your profile. It will be used this address to communicate with you about your application.
If you change your email address, you can amend it within your account by using the 'Profile' button in the top navigation bar of the form.
If you forget your login details, you can use the 'Forgot your user name or password?' link on the login page to reset your password.
Starting your application
Please read the application instruction on the official webpage of the scholarship.
You should also review the relevant admissions statement for the programme you are applying for. This statement contains information about required documents and how they relate to the outcome of your application.
Once you have logged in to the system, select the 'Start application' button. You will see a list of options in the left-hand navigation bar.
Select 'Programme choice' to begin. You will need to complete this section first.
Complete each section as it appears. If you would like to pause in a section and save your work, use the 'Save' button located at the top and bottom of each screen.
Proceed through the sections of the application form using the 'Save and Continue' button.
Submitting your application
You may only submit your application once.
When you have completed your application, use the 'Check Your Application' feature in the left-hand navigation bar to check whether you have completed all the relevant questions. The system will highlight any that still need completing.
Please review your responses and answer questions accurately. When you submit your application your responses will become the official property of the University of Bristol and the admission decision will be based on the information provided.
After completing your application, you can begin the submission process. Please select 'Submit Application' at the top of the page. You will be asked to confirm and to digitally sign your application. Once the University has received this, you will get a confirmation message.
