National Arts Council Scholarships
As Singapore's arts scene enters the next phase of development amidst an increasingly complex socio-cultural environment, NAC recognises the need to continue to invest in and nurture a broad diversity of arts practitioners and professionals who have the knowledge and skills to lead the development of Singapore’s arts and cultural landscape, as well as champion the importance of the arts to a wider community. New opportunities have also emerged for professional practice and discourse in the areas of arts research and writing, community arts, arts education, and arts management, for example.
The NAC Scholarships provide support to outstanding individuals who wish to advance their career in the arts and lead positive changes in the areas of artistic practice, production, engagement and/or management.
The NAC currently offers the following two scholarships for individuals who are creative, bold and passionate about developing Singapore’s arts and cultural landscape:
NAC ARTS SCHOLARSHIP (UNDERGRADUATE)
The NAC Arts Scholarship (Undergraduate) aims to nurture outstanding individuals who wish to pursue a career as an arts practitioner or professional, and have the potential to lead in the fields of performing arts, visual arts, literary arts, community arts, arts education, technical design and production management, or arts management in Singapore.
The NAC Arts Scholarship (Undergraduate) supports a wide range of full-time arts and arts-related Bachelor degree programmes at recognised universities or arts institutions in Singapore or overseas. Please note that online courses will not be considered. In view of the needs and opportunities in the arts and cultural sector, the following fields of study have been identified as a priority:
- Art history and curating
- Arts criticism and writing
- Arts management/ Cultural policy/ Creative entrepreneurship
- Arts practice with a focus in a traditional art form reflecting the Chinese, Malay and/or Indian heritage of Singapore
- Community Arts
- Creative writing and literary translation
- Dance
- Dramaturgy
- Music production and live sound engineering
- Stage and sound design, and production management
SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE
For local study, the Scholarship will cover tuition and compulsory fees up to 90% of total costs, subject to a maximum of $110,000.
For overseas study, the Scholarship will cover tuition and compulsory fees, monthly maintenance allowance and one-time return airfare up to 90% of total costs, subject to a maximum of $110,000.
SERVICE COMMITMENT
Recipients of an NAC Arts Scholarship must fulfil a service commitment of a specific duration in the arts sector upon graduation. The service commitment duration depends on the Scholarship quantum as follows:

Recipients can fulfil the service commitment by:
- being employed in Singapore with an arts organisation in any arts-related occupation, which is relevant to the course of study; or
- being engaged in any work on a full-time basis in connection with the arts in Singapore, in a field relevant to the course of study.

- Potential contribution of the applicant’s area of studies to the development of the arts and cultural sector in Singapore
- Leadership qualities
- Talent (creative potential)
- Strong track record of co-curricular activities, and/or achievements and involvement in the arts in Singapore
- Good academic record
NAC ARTS SCHOLARSHIP (POSTGRADUATE)
The NAC Arts Scholarship (Postgraduate) recognises outstanding arts practitioners and professionals with a vision to lead and advance the development of their practice in the fields of performing arts, visual arts, literary arts, community arts, arts education, technical design and production management, or arts management in Singapore. The NAC Arts Scholarship (Postgraduate) supports the deepening of knowledge and skills of practising artists and professionals who are seeking to assume a bigger role in their artistic or professional career and bringing about positive changes in the arts and cultural sector in Singapore.
The NAC Arts Scholarship (Postgraduate) supports a wide range of full-time arts and arts-related Master’s degree or Doctorate programmes at recognised universities or arts institutions in Singapore or overseas. Please note that online courses will not be considered. In view of the needs and opportunities in the arts and cultural sector, the following fields of study have been identified as a priority:
- Art history and curating
- Arts criticism and writing
- Arts education
- Arts management/ Cultural policy/ Creative entrepreneurship
- Arts practice with a focus in a traditional art form reflecting the Chinese, Malay and/or Indian heritage of Singapore
- Arts research
- Children's theatre
- Creative writing and literary translation
- Dramaturgy
- Music business, production and technology
- Music composing, directing, conducting and arranging
- Stage and sound design, and production management
