aucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC)-Armenia invites to a public lecture on

Water privatization in Armenia: sustainability impact assessment

to be delivered by Dr. Naira Harutyunyan

General Overview

Recent worldwide changes in water policies emphasize the role of the private sector in the provision of water services with the expectation of market forces to redress public provision failures and introduce innovative approaches for promoting sustainability. Since the early 2000s Armenia has experienced unprecedented rapid and mass privatization in the water sector recording highest levels in Europe. Dr. Harutyunyan will share the results of her assessment of the magnitude and impacts of privatization on sustainability performance of all water utilities currently operating in Armenia under various governance modes. Ex-post benchmarking is employed for assessing relative and absolute sustainability measures, developing scores for sustainability ranking of all Armenian utilities and providing sustainability performance comparisons on the international level that have never been done before.
