On September 3, 2015 the Caucasus Institute in cooperation with the Friedrich Naumann Foundations organize a public lecture by Dr. Wolfgang John, former director of the Naumann Foundation in the South Caucasus, on developing liberal democracy in the South Caucasus in the framework of European Integration.

Main topics of the lecture:

  • Current state of affairs of liberal democracy in Germany and EU countries
  • Is democracy always liberal and liberalism always democratic?
  • What should South Caucasus societies learn from Europe and what should not?
  • Are there any social, geographic, economic, etc. preconditions for developing liberal democracy?
