Preparation for your undergraduate degree
The International Year One is an intensive, three-term programme of academic subjects, study skills and English language training that is designed for international students. The course is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree.
Pathways
Business
You will study English, Introduction to Business Studies, Maths and Economics for Business, Introduction to Financial Accounting, Business Management, Marketing and Public Relations, and Financial Reporting and Management Accounting.
Engineering
You will study English, and Engineering Mathematics.
If you want to progress to Electrical and Electronic Engineering, you’ll also study Electrical Engineering, Digital and Analogue Electronics, Microprocessors and Software, Introduction to Telecommunication Systems, Electrical Engineering Practice, and Engineering Principles.
If you want to progress to Mechanical Engineering, you’ll also study Applied Mechanics, Materials and Manufacture; Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics; Engineering Practice; and Mechanical Engineering Design.
Course structure
Both pathways are modular in structure, with core modules common to each route, and subject-specific modules, each carefully designed to focus on the academic area most useful to your chosen degree.
Each pathway includes coursework, lectures, small group seminar work and self-study.
Progression to Liverpool John Moores University
Once you complete the programme and achieve the required grades, you can enter the second year of your chosen undergraduate degree at the University.

Academic: Good high school graduation grades or equivalent academic study
Age: You should be 18 years or older
Nationality: Available to international and EU students
English language requirements*: IELTS 5.0 (minimum 5.0 in writing) or equivalent

* The English language entry requirements stated are for information regarding entry to the course. If you require a UK visa to study, depending on the type of visa you need, the English language requirements and valid English tests to satisfy the UK visa criteria may differ.
If you are applying to study in the UK under the Tier 4 student route it may be necessary for you to submit a Secure English Language Test (SELT) as part of your visa application.
