Why IST Austria?
IST Austria has a lot to offer for students who decide to pursue a career in science.
We are a world-class basic science research institute in the heart of Europe. Our doctoral education offers a US-style graduate school experience, in which students are admitted to the PhD program, rather than individual research groups, and only select their PhD supervisors after a year of rotations and a unique interdisciplinary training program. We admit exceptional students with master’s or bachelor’s degrees, and all of our PhD students are fully-funded for the duration of their PhD.
IST Austria has a diverse and international student population, represented by students from over 30 countries. We use English throughout the institute as the language of instruction and communication.
In terms of location, IST Austria is only a 25-minute bus ride from Vienna, which is consistently voted one of the best cities in the world to live in. Our students have the choice of living in Klosterneuburg, a quiet area surrounded by beautiful woods and close to the world-famous monastery (Stift Klosterneuburg), or right in the hustle and bustle of Vienna. We also have a number of housing options on campus.
