The School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy (SSHP) is inviting applications for fully funded postgraduate research scholarships in the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology. The competition is primarily open to new Home/EU and International students who are applying for a full-time MPhil/PhD place. Scholarships will be tenable for up to 3 years (subject to the holder making satisfactory academic progress). Applications for part-time study will also be considered, at an appropriate pro rata rate and extended duration.

 Scholarships are awarded in the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology.

Scholarships are available for pursuing MPhil/PhD program at Birkbeck, University of London.

Eligibility:

-Students applying for an MPhil/PhD place in the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology are eligible for these awards. The competition is primarily open to new Home/EU and International students who are applying for a full-time MPhil/PhD place. Applications for part-time study will also be considered, at an appropriate pro rata rate and extended duration.
-In addition to applications in the general subject areas of History, Classics and Archaeology, we also encourage applications related to the following four thematic areas: ‘Communicating Cultures'; Gender Studies; ‘Super Diversity'; ‘Zones of Conflict and Contestation’. Cross-departmental and cross-school applications – where the primary supervisor is based within the School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy – are also welcomed.
 
The School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy will award up to six fully funded Postgraduate Research Scholarships in 2015. These scholarships will include a number of Birkbeck ‘Anniversary Scholarships’ offered by the College Innovation Fund. Students applying for an MPhil/PhD place in the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology are eligible for these awards. The competition is primarily open to new Home/EU and International students who are applying for a full-time MPhil/PhD place. Applications for part-time study will also be considered, at an appropriate pro rata rate and extended duration.
 
Up to six fully funded postgraduate research scholarships are awarded.
Scholarships are offered for up to 3 years (subject to the holder making satisfactory academic progress).

The scholarship awards will include a fee waiver up to the value of the full-time home/EU rate for MPhil/PhD degrees (currently £3,996), in addition to an annual stipend set at Research Council rates (currently £15,863); pro rata in the case of a part-time award.

The competition will be decided on the basis of academic merit.

Scholarships will be announced in late spring 2015, to be taken up in the 2015-16 academic year

Please note that in order to apply for a Postgraduate Research Scholarship prospective students must also apply for an MPhil/PhD place in the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology, either before (strongly encouraged) or at the same time as applying for a scholarship.
