Up to eleven excellence scholarships in the form of a fee waiver are available in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences at University College Cork. The applications for these scholarships are open for humanities and social sciences graduates (excluding Mathematics, Law and Commerce/Business) who wish to carry out research for the degree of PhD (or PhD Track or MPhil as a pathway to a PhD) commencing in September 2015. Recipients of the scholarship will be awarded the title of College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences Excellence Scholar (PhD). The application deadline is 18th May, 2015. 
Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (CACSSS).
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing PhD (or PhD Track, or MPhil as a pathway to a PhD) programme at the University College Cork.

Eligibility:
-Applicants must have at least Second Class Honours (Grade 1) or equivalent in their first or subsequent degree.
-Applications are invited from students who will commence a PhD (or PhD Track, or MPhil as a pathway to a PhD) programme in September 2015.
-Applicants should already have applied through PAC for the relevant programme. The award of the scholarship(s) is contingent on the student being accepted to the relevant PhD (or PhD Track or MPhil) programme. 
Scholarship Open for International Students: 
These excellence scholarships are open to EU and non-EU students.
Scholarship Description: Applications for Excellence Scholarships (PhD) are invited from Humanities and Social Sciences graduates (excluding Mathematics, Law and Commerce/Business) who wish to carry out research for the degree of PhD (or PhD Track or MPhil as a pathway to a PhD) commencing in September 2015 in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (CACSSS) at University College Cork, Ireland. Applicants must have at least Second Class Honours (Grade 1) or equivalent in their first or subsequent degree.
Number of award(s): A maximum of eleven CACSSS Excellence Scholarships (PhD) will be awarded to successful applicants.
Duration of award(s): Scholarships are tenable for a maximum of three years from the date of initial registration.
What does it cover? 
Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a fee waiver. The scholarships are open to EU and non-EU students. However, the funding will only cover the EU fee, so successful non-EU applicants will be responsible for the balance. Recipients of the scholarship will be awarded the title of College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences Excellence Scholar (PhD). 
Selection Criteria: Selection of successful applicants on the basis of the materials supplied will be by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences Graduate Studies Committee. Scholarships will be awarded to candidates of sufficient merit who have feasible research topics of academic value. Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria:
-Quality of the project
-Research methodology
-Why the research merits the support of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social
-Sciences Excellence Scholarship (PhD) scheme
-Research plan
-Applicant profile 
Notification: All applications will be acknowledged by email on or before 19th May.
How to Apply: Applicants should complete the Excellence Scholarship application form. A letter of support from the Head of Department/School where the proposed research is to be carried out should be submitted with the application form. In addition, applicants should ask their prospective supervisor or a recent lecturer/academic advisor/supervisor to send an academic reference separately, on the appropriate form. Non-UCC graduates should include scanned transcripts of their academic record. All documentation must be submitted by email only.
