Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants should be international (International is defined as overseas fee payer, not Home/EU).
  • International PhD studentships will fund programme fees at the University's standard international postgraduate fee (£17,500 for Science in 2014/15), noting that there are a number of exceptions which can be found on the finance website -www.cf.ac.uk/fince/students/postgraduate/index.html.
  • The applicant's research proposal or project should align with one or more of the College Research Themeshttp://www.cardiff.ac.uk/colleges/biomedical-life-sciences
  • The applicant's supervisor should support the application for International Scholarship Fund with a support statement.

Please note the scholarship covers programme fees only and does not include stipend (maintenance costs).

How to apply

In order to apply for the Scholarship, student are asked to identify and approach an appropriate Schools or a potential supervisor in a School within the College with a research proposal and expression of interest for the Scholarship by end of April 2015. The School will consider your application and the research proposal in the first instance. If your research proposal aligns with one or more of the Research Themes in the College and if your supervisor is happy to support your application for the International PhD Scholarship, they will ask you to complete the BLS Scholarship Application Form along with other forms as required by the University admissions.

Please note that the College is unable to accept any application directly from an applicant. All applications should go to a potential supervisor in one of the Schools in the College. The Schools will forward the details of the applicants who have clearly identified a research interest related to the College Research themes and meet the required academic criteria for consideration by the College Panel. The Panel will meet and allocate scholarships by the end of May/Early June 2015.
