Theme: Cultural Pluralism in Asia and Europe
The Summer School is where students and scholars from different regions get to meet. Exchange of ideas and the fostering of understanding across geographical and cultural divides are of the essence. This summer school offers a wonderful opportunity for gaining knowledge and awareness of the many challenges that face us all today in the field of multiculturalism and cultural pluraity. It is a learning experience that transcends boundaries. The courses at the summer school aim at contributing to increasing your knowledge and competency in cultural plurality but also, in a wider context, at contributing to the development of society. I hope you will be inspired by the teaching and the learning environment at the summer school, avail yourself of all the varied cultural and social programs that the summer school has to offer as well as well as enjoy each other’s company in the classroom and during field trips.
Participation Fee
USD 700.00 (for 2 weeks programme in Malaysia)
Fees inclusive of 2 weeks accommodation, meals, local transportation and field trips within Malaysia (excluding return air fare).
USD 1,000.00 (for 2 weeks in Malaysia + 1 week in Brussels)
Fees inclusive of 2 weeks in Malaysia (as above) and 1 week in Brussels – accommodation, meals, local transportation and visit to European institutions / Bruges (excluding return air fare).
Scholarship/Grant Criteria
The Jean Monnet Network (JMN) on Challenges to Multiculturalism and Multilateralism co-funded by the European Union, will offer up to 7 grants to Southeast Asian and European students accepted for the 3-week AEI-ASEM Summer School to be held in Kuala Lumpur and Brussels. The grant will cover the USD1000 fees for the Summer School and include a travel subsidy of 300€ to help cover the cost of travel.
Students interested in applying for the grant should email their applications to eucentresg-jmncmm@nus.edu.sg before 21 April 2017. Their applications should include a copy of transcript, CV and a brief personal motivation statement of 500 – 600 words on their interest in the theme of the Summer School “Cultural Pluralism in Asia and Europe”.
The award for the grant will be made by a Select Committee comprising faculty staff from the Partner Universities in the JMN, and decision made will be final.
