By providing funds for undergraduate Psi Chi student members who will serve as first author and project director, the Undergraduate Research Grants help to defray direct costs (barring stipends, salary, tuition, research assistants, etc.) of the student's original, empirical, research project as well as introduce students to the process of applying and managing research grants. The Undergraduate Research Grants provides funds for well-rounded applications which demonstrate competence of and commitment to psychologys best research practices. Stipends are available for the faculty sponsors of the highest scoring recipients.
Budget
Each round has $25,000 available for research grants. An annual total of $75,000 in funding is available for student research projects.
Individual grants are up to $1,500 or $3,500 for research requiring the applicant to travel significant distances. New in 2021-22: applicants experiencing financial hardships may elect to fill out additional prompts to be considered for an additional $2,000 intended for living expenses.
Additionally, eleven $1,500 faculty stipends are available per round, with a thirty-three stipends annually available. Faculty stipends are awarded to the highest scoring applications in each round.
Research funding and faculty stipends come together for an annual total of $124,500.
Deadline
Applications for the fall round are due to the application portal by October 15.
The application portal will open approximately 30 days before the deadline.
