This course provides students with theoretical knowledge on developmental psychopathology. Students acquire knowledge on most common problems in youth, age specific characteristics of psychopathology and developmental transactional explanatory models for youth psychopathology. Students will also acquire theoretical and applied knowledge on psychological assessment and diagnostic decision-making processes. Students will get acquainted with some assessment instruments that can be used to test some ‘typical’ hypotheses in the Child and Youth clinical practice.
Students will also learn how to apply their knowledge of normal development and developmental psychopathology to the assessment process for children and adolescents.
This course is mainly organized for students that intent to follow the master ‘Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology’, but who do not entirely meet the admission requirements. The aim of this course is twofold. First, this course provides students with theoretical knowledge on developmental psychopathology. Students acquire knowledge on most common problems in youth, age specific characteristics of psychopathology and developmental transactional explanatory models for youth psychopathology. Students will also learn how to apply this knowledge for clinical use. Second, students will acquire theoretical and applied knowledge on psychological assessment and diagnostic decision-making process. Emphasis is on the diagnostic cycle, a model for psychological decision making, and the Assessment for Intervention model. Students will get acquainted with some assessment instruments, that can be used to test some ‘typical’ hypothesis in the Child and Youth clinical practice. Students will also learn how to apply their knowledge of normal development and developmental psychopathology to the assessment process for children and adolescents. 

Target audience
This course is organized for students that intent to follow the master ‘Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology’, but who do not entirely meet the admission requirements.
Only if there are less than 20 students that follow this course to be able to enter the CCAP master, applications from other students will be considered. A bachelor degree in (developmental) psychology is required.

Study load
Study load will be 80 hours consisting of:

  • A. Daily lectures, tutorials, and discussion
  • B. Self-study: reading materials
  • C. Individual and group assignments

Course fee: €900

It is possible to arrive one week earlier (e.g., if quarantine measures are required for travels from your home country). Contact the summer school office if you want to use this option.

Not all students from abroad will completely meet the full admission criteria.
