Are you ready to lead?
For the longest time, school has been organized around subjects instead of skills. We go to math class to learn to pass a test about binomials. But, in reality, most of us won’t use binomials later in life. What we actually learn in math class is problem-solving—a skill that is very important later in life.
At Akimbo, we believe education is different than learning. Education is mandatory. Learning is something you choose to do.
The Emerging Leaders Program is for college students who are looking to learn real skills. The ones that will set them apart when they apply for jobs and lead in the future of work.
This program is fast-paced. It’s only five days. We’ll learn together and ship projects quickly and see things differently by the end. There’s no rubric for how to do the projects, because at Akimbo, we know that there’s not one right way.
You’ll work way harder than you expected, and meet people who are on the same journey.
You will be challenged to think differently and produce your best work. You will finish with a new-found clarity about what’s next for you. You will likely learn more in these five days than you will all summer.
This workshop isn’t for everyone. It’s for those who are really excited to learn and put in the time and effort to grow.
A way to grow in a time of uncertainty
The world is topsy turvy right now. Your expectations for what’s next have definitely changed. Many college students are displaced at home, learning virtually, and are uncertain if their summer plans for a job or internship are still a possibility.
In a time where learning online has become more normal than ever before and priorities have shifted, Akimbo is launching this full-scholarship, free program for a group of students who are looking to level up this summer and learn the real skills needed for when they join the working world.
As the world changes, we’re going to be looking for leaders. People who can see possibilities. If you want to lean into that possibility, connect with the others, and become a leader, this might be for you.
Application details
Our goal isn’t to have as many students as possible, but instead to focus on having a cohort of students who are excited to participate, find a path forward, and make change happen. Spots are limited.
We will let you know via email by May 11th, 2020 if you’ve been selected as a finalist. Finalists will be invited to join a video call in mid-May. After the call, we will notify those who have been accepted into the program by Friday, May 15th, 2020.
