Jesus College Seren Summer School
Each year we welcome 75 Year 12 Seren students from across Wales to spend the week with us on a fully-funded residential programme.
The week offers an immersive and interactive programme of lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops as well as providing delegates with guidance and advice about Oxford and university in general. Attendees will experience what it could be like to study as an undergraduate student at Oxford.
What is it all about?
The Jesus College Seren Summer School is designed to inform, equip and increase progression of academically talented individuals from the most disadvantaged backgrounds in Wales to Oxford and other competitive universities. Unlike the Oxford UNIQ residential schools, the Jesus College Seren Summer School is inter-disciplinary and skills focused. Delegates will attend lectures and seminars covering a variety of subject areas. Although this may take you out of your comfort zone academically, we want to expose students to a wide range of available subjects. We encourage delegates to embrace and explore how different disciplines interact and support each other in the pursuit of knowledge and discovery!
What is the schedule like?
Busy but enjoyable! Delegates will attend a variety of academic and Oxford based activities. Last year’s cohort experienced:
Lectures from across various disciplines
Seminars for more focused topics
Tutorials – delegates experience a mini-tutorial session with an Oxford Tutor. The tutorial system is a form of personalised learning central to teaching at Oxford.
Museum visits
Debate competition
Skills and advice workshops
Tour of Oxford Colleges
A celebration dinner at Balliol College
