PhD Fellowships in Decentralised Data Management for Data Ecosystems

The cross-fertilisation and sharing of vital resources and datasets from different participants is a key benefit of data ecosystems, leading to business opportunities, easier access to knowledge and capital. The work will investigate new approaches to decentralised data management within a data ecosystem. The PhD candidate is expected to develop novel models for the indexing, discoverability and composition of entity-centric views across heterogenous data sources. The candidate is expected to ground the work in current state-of-the-art in entity data management, decentralised peer-to-peer data management, and define scientifically valid evaluation datasets and frameworks.

The group you will join at Insight @ NUI Galway offers a stimulating, dynamic and multi-cultural research team with members (including 5 PhD students) from all over the world, excellent ties to research-groups worldwide, and close collaboration with industrial partners.

The PhD fellowship offers for the successful candidate an annual stipend of EUR18,000 tax-free plus course fees and conference travel when presenting. The position is open for both EU and Non-EU candidates.

The PhD candidate should have:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Excellent technical skills.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English.
  • Good knowledge of one or more of the following topics is a bonus: distributed ledgers, data management, distributed systems, peer-to-peer systems, decentralised systems, entity management, and relevant topics.

The student will be supervised by Dr. Edward Curry.
