The Center is pleased to announce we have two open positions: postdoctoral research associate and research scientist. Please see below for details.

Postdoctoral Research Associate Position

The Paul and Marcia Wythes Center on Contemporary China of the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) invites applications for a postdoctoral or more senior research associate for the 2018-19 academic year for a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on satisfactory performance and continued funding. Preferred start date September 1, 2018. The position is open to a scholar who would be in residence and participate in all of the Center's activities, including student-faculty seminars, workshops, and public lectures. The ideal applicant will have received a Ph.D. within the past three years and studies aspects of contemporary Chinese society from a social science disciplinary perspective. He/she will have opportunities to collaborate with the Center's faculty. This position is subject to the University's background check policy.

Research Scientist

The Paul and Marcia Wythes Center on Contemporary China of the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) invites applications for a full time Associate or more senior Research Scholar with a preferred start date of September 1, 2018. The Center conducts research that advances the study of contemporary China at Princeton University and provides substantive analysis from social science perspectives of the dramatic sociological shifts taking place in China today. The Research Scholar's duties include: working collaboratively with the Director to analyze multiple large datasets; coordinating, designing, implementing, and reporting on the results of such analyses; interfacing with collaborators or potential collaborators in research; potential course instruction pending departmental need, sufficient course enrollments and with the approval of the Office of the Dean of the Faculty; offering of workshops; preparing manuscripts for publication; training junior scholars and graduate students on research study design, methodology, and theory; guiding junior scholars and students in research projects; being familiar with quantitative data sources on China; providing data resource services on China to Princeton's scholars and students; and managing and participating in research conferences, seminars, and lecture series. The successful applicant will also contribute to the overall research agenda of the Center. There will be opportunities for authorship on publications, including first authorship, and preparing applications for external funding.

The appointment is for three years with reappointment contingent upon successful department and University committee review. Required Qualifications: Qualified individuals will have a Ph.D. in the social sciences and have: strong data management skills, ability to interpret data with coherent theory, strong methodological skills and interests, an interest in quantitative research methods and theory, strongly motivated, and work well in a team setting. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Chinese are required. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated productivity in terms of published journal articles and scientific conference presentations. Preference will be given to candidates who are interested in contemporary China. This position is subject to the University's background check policy.
