Call for Papers Vernacular Architecture Forum

Location:   Quebec, Canada

Call for Papers Date:   2012-11-15 (in 20 days)

The Vernacular Architecture Forum invites paper proposals for its annual meeting in Gaspé, Quebec, Canada, June 11-15, 2013.

Papers may address vernacular and everyday buildings, sites, or cultural landscapes worldwide. Submissions on all vernacular topics are welcome. Papers should be 20 minutes in length, although proposals for complete sessions, roundtable discussions, or other innovative means that facilitate scholarly discourse are welcome.

Proposals must be one page, fewer than 400 words, and include your paper title, author’s name, and email address. You may include up to two images with your submission. Please state clearly the argument of the paper and explain the methodology and content. Attach a one-page CV to your proposal submission. The deadline for proposals is November 15, 2012.

There will be simultaneous translation between English/French or French/English in all sessions, in keeping with Canadian practice. Please note that we will therefore need a final copy of your paper by May 15, 2013. It will be given to the translators so that they may familiarize themselves with the specialized vocabulary before having to simultaneously translate it for a wider audience. The quality of their service can only be enhanced by your cooperation.

Presenters must deliver their papers in person. Speakers who do not register for the conference by April 1, 2013 will be withdrawn. Please do not submit an abstract if you are not committed to attending the papers session on Friday June 14, 2013. (Please note that, unlike past years, papers will be given on a Friday rather than a Saturday). There may be limited financial assistance, in the form of Pamela H. Simpson Presenter’s Fellowships, to offset registration costs to students and recent graduates. Please send complete proposals as a Microsoft Word document in Times New Roman font, 12 point, to Gail Dubrow at dubrow@umn.edu or contact her for further information. Please send all elements of your proposal as a single file named as follows: LASTNAMEvaf2013.
