The Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School of Literary Studies is the only graduate school focusing solely on literary studies to have been repeatedly successful in the German "Excellence Initiative". It has as its aim the supervision of exceptional dissertation projects in the field of Literary Studies, examining European, American, Arabic and Asian literary texts, with an historical and/or inter- or transcultural approach.

The Graduate School will award in 2016:

  • up to 10 doctoral scholarships with a duration of 3 years max.

  • up to 2 post-doctoral scholarships with a duration of 2 years max.

The scholarships will commence on 1st October 2017
The application deadline is 15th December 2016
The application platform will be available from 17th October 2016

Doctoral scholarships
The doctoral course "Literary Studies" offers a structured research programme with intensive individual supervision of the thesis. Doctoral candidates take part in acti­vi­ties that support them in their research within their individual disciplines, at the same time placing this research in an interdisciplinary context. These activities include:

  • Interdisciplinary research colloquia
  • Seminars on methodology and literary theory
  • Courses and workshops in the field of transferable skills

Applicants must hold a completed degree (M.A. or equivalent) with aboveaverage grades in the humanities, preferably literary studies.

Post-doctoral scholarships
The post-doctoral scholarships offer young researchers the opportunity to focus on their own research within an excellent research context. We expect active cooperation.
