About the program
The Institute of Cross Cultural Studies and Academic Exchange has established local center in India near the foothills of the Himalayas. We are inviting applications for the Visiting Scholar in Residence for 2016-2017. The position is for two weeks to two months depending on the research proposal of the scholar who is working in the areas of Indian thought and culture. The visiting scholar will get free accommodation on campus or in the town to carry individual research project while visiting Maynaguri college.
The college is within the driving distance of a major University and near Darjeeling, Bhutan and Sikim. Scholars interested to work on Hindu and Buddhist thought will be able to visit temples and monasteries and also be able to meet local scholars and practitioners during their visit. The scholar will be invited to give lecture at local universities and colleges during the designated stay. There is no financial commitment in this position. The scholar should have his travel planned and funded along with health insurance. The position does have a rolling application date but need to be applied three months prior to intended stay. The position will be based near Maynaguri college campus.
Maynaguri is also near the famous Dooars of the State of West Bengal and there is a Safari surrounded by several villages. Scholars interested on projects on Ecology would find this place worth studying. Dooars is famous for its rich biodiversity and forests, the most notable of which are Gorumara National Park, Jaldapara Wild Life Sanctuary, and Buxa Tiger Reserve.
