Eligibility

The Village to Raise a Child program is open to any student or group of students (fromany country) who is currently enrolled in a high school or its equivalent. Applicants must have an innovative idea or recently initiated project that attempts to solve a community-wide problem. Ongoing projects must be less than two years old. Applicants do not need to speak English fluently, but familiarity with the language is preferred. Students applying as a group must choose one leader to represent them for the subsequent steps of the application.

*Note: Several portions of this application heavily require that applicants have constant, reliable access to the internet. If you foresee this being a problem for you, please send us an email as soon as possible at villagetoraiseachild@gmail.com.

Application Requirements

STAGE 1: Application Submission (April 1 - June 1)

Applicants must submit a project proposal and a self-made video responding to the prompt “Share with us your village and your idea to make it better.”

Note that the idea of a “village” in this prompt is not restricted solely to a neighborhood or a particular group of people, but rather, any community (physical and otherwise) to which applicants feel they belong. Applicants are encouraged to be creative in approaching this prompt. Videos must be three to five (3-5) minutes long and be uploaded to YouTube with the title “Village to Raise a Child Entry” followed by the applicant’s name, hometown and home country (e.g. “Village to Raise a Child Entry – Michi Ferreol, Manila, Philippines). The link to this video should be added to the project proposal form, where prompted.

*Note: The video and project proposal must be submitted in English. However, applicants are encouraged to apply no matter what level of English they have, and fluency is neither expected nor required. If you have any questions or concerns, please send us an email at villagetoraiseachild@gmail.com.

STAGE 2: Public Voting (June 5 - July 1)

All videos will be uploaded onto the Harvard Igniting Innovation Summit website, where they can be viewed by the public. Applicants have four weeks to get people to vote for their entry by “liking” their video on the IIS website. The five most “liked” videos will earn automatic spots as a finalist.

STAGE 3: Finalists and Interviews (July 5 - July 25)

There will be fifteen finalists (five selected by the public through voting and the rest selected by the board of judges based on the quality of the students’ applications). All these finalists will be invited to a Skype interview, after which five Global Trailblazers will be chosen.

Notification of Selected Applicants

Applicants will be notified by email if they have been chosen as finalists on July 5.Winners will be notified by email about selection for the program on July 25

Program Fees

Applicants are not expected to pay out-of-pocket for any part of their participation in this program and selection as Global Trailblazers does NOT guarantee that VTRAC will be able to fund the student’s airfare and other related expenses.  We will do everything in our power, however, elected students must be prepared to participate in Sponsorship Acquisition & Crowdfunding Campaign.
