Chancellor's Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

UTS Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are awarded through a highly competitive process to outstanding early career researchers who wish to develop their research, teaching and learning, management and communication skills to become the next generation of leading academics at UTS.

We are seeking applications from candidates whose profile and proposed program of work aligns with UTS’s strategic intent to be a research leader across each of the following Research Focus Areas:

  • Health
  • Data Science
  • Sustainability
  • Social Futures
  • Future Work and Industry

In addition, many of UTS’s nine faculties are seeking to attract candidates in various research priority areas.

Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to engage in high quality research projects, produce high quality outputs, and contribute to existing and emerging teaching and learning areas relevant to UTS.

Fellowships are offered on the basis of four years for a combination research and teaching appointment. The number of fellowships awarded will depend on the quality of the candidates and the funding available. Between 2011 and 2016, between 10 and 16 fellows were appointed each year.

Fellows will initially be appointed at Academic Salary Level B, Step 2 ($99,924 base salary as of 1 May 2017). In addition, the university offers 17 per cent employer-provided superannuation contribution.

Depending on the nature of the proposed research, project funding of up to $50,000 is also available: refer to the scheme guidelines for details.

Eligibility

Applicants will have been awarded a research doctoral degree (equivalent to an Australian PhD degree) within the last 5 years. Research doctoral degree candidates whose thesis is under examination at the closing date, and research doctoral degree candidates who will submit their PhD thesis by 30 June 2017 may also apply. International Candidates are welcome to apply.

To be eligible, candidates must nominate and consult closely with one UTS supervisor in developing an EOI.

Application process

  • Prior to lodging an EOI, candidates are strongly advised to contact the relevant UTS faculty (or equivalent) and inquire about current research priorities to ensure there is support for their application.
  • The three-stage application process involves expression of interest (EOI), invited full application and interview.
  • Only one application per individual will be accepted. You must nominate only one supervisor.
  • A valid EOI application requires an online registration, followed by the electronic submission of the complete EOI application document using the template provided. All applicants must have successfully registered before being able to submit their EOI application documents.
