Description

A Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship (SKO1352) in Media Studies in the area of Media Innovation, connected to the ongoing research project on streaming media services (STREAM), is available at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo. The project is funded by the Norwegian Research Council.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a work package 3 in the ongoing research project STREAM. The work package is titled "The business models and value networks in streaming media services," and its aim is to examine the business models of streaming media services and the actor-networks they are part of. Applicants must submit a project description detailing how they wish to research this question.

The candidate will be part of the Media Innovation research group at the department, which is an area of media studies that includes research on how changing technologies, and changing modes of usage and engagement with media bring about media innovation and transformation of the media sector with perspectives ranging from institutional and structural conditions, to genres and expressions.

The candidate is also expected to become part of the research environment of the department and contribute to its development. The main purpose of postdoctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

The position is available for a period of four years. There is a 25 % component of the position which is devoted to teaching and administrative duties.

Requirements

  • PhD or similar qualifications within Media Studies with a specialization in Media Innovation
  • The candidate's research project must be closely connected to the main research area, and the research questions and methods employed in the STREAM project
  • Personal suitability and motivation for the position

The doctoral dissertation must have been submitted for evaluation before the application deadline.

In the evaluation of the applications, emphasis will be placed on:

  • the project’s scientific or scholarly merit, research-related relevance and innovation
  • the applicant’s experience with research on business strategy and business models and/or value networks in new digital media services
  • the applicant’s experience with the methods and theories used in the STREAM project
  • the applicant’s estimated academic and personal ability to carry out the project within the allotted time frame and contribute to the main research area
  • the applicant's co-operative skills and the ability to successfully join in academic collaboration within and across disciplines.
