University of Oslo PhD Candidate in Molecular Biology

A three-year PhD fellowship position (SKO 1017) for a qualified candidate with background in molecular biology is available at the Department of Immunology. The project is located at the research group of Associate Professor Shuo-Wang Qiao, at the Department of Immunology, Institute of Clinical Medicine, the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo. The position is financed by the University of Oslo and the candidate will join the K.G. Jebsen for Celiac Disease Research that will start its operation on August 15th, 2016.

The purpose of the PhD Fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The Fellowship requires admission to the PhD program at the Faculty of Medicine. Appointment to a PhD research Fellowship is conditional upon admission to the Faculty's research training program.

Job Description

Candidate for this position will work mostly with the molecular analysis of immune cells. The project will have emphasis on single-cell transcriptomics of immune cells. This project uses cutting-edge technology within molecular biology, modern high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics. The project studies the transcriptional profile of antigen-specific T cells relevant for human diseases, and link that with the T-cell receptor information on the single-cell level.

The successful applicant will work in close contact with other molecular biologists and bioinformatician in an interactive multidisciplinary centre of scientists and in a strong academic environment.

Requirements

  • We are looking for a highly motivated and structured candidate with molecular biology skills and collaborative qualities.
  • The applicant must have a Master’s degree (or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian Master’s degree).
  • Experience with immunology, RNA-seq or high-throughput sequencing is considered an advantage.

  • The candidate must be fluent in written and spoken English.
