Doctoral Research Fellowship in "Literature, Cognition and Emotion"

A Doctoral Research Fellowship (SKO 1017) in “Literature, Cognition and Emotion” is available at the Department of ILOS, University of Oslo.

Literature, Cognition and Emotions is a researcher group that debates the cognitive and emotional dimensions of literature and film, as well as the role of literary studies in an age of interdisciplinarity. We approach the nexus of literature, cognition and emotions from the point of view of literary study and ask what cognitive science, psychology, philosophy of mind, phenomenology and related subjects can contribute to the theory and practice of our field and, in turn, what literary texts and traditions of interpretation reveal about the human mind and its emotional, social and cognitive complexities.
Our group shares expertise in literary theory, English literature, French literature, German literature, Nordic literatures, Spanish literature and (post-)Yugoslav literature.

The dissertation project of the prospective PhD candidate in "Literature, Cognition and Emotion" can take the shape of a theoretical contribution to the field of cognitive literary study or an analysis of issues of cognition/emotion in relation to a particular historical or cultural context with a strong interdisciplinary dimension.

The person appointed will be affiliated with the Faculty's organized research training. The academic work is to result in a doctoral thesis that will be defended at the Faculty with a view to obtaining the degree of PhD. The successful candidate is expected to join the existing research milieu or network and contribute to its development. Read more about the doctoral degree.
