Functional Anatomy

This course is designed for students intending to apply for medical (or dental) school, or those currently enrolled in a clinical school that lacks hands-on anatomical experiences. The course provides fundamental introductory training in Human Anatomy.

The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of gross anatomy, medical and anatomical terminology, and the principles of identification of anatomical structures in medical images.

The key themes of this course include gross anatomy of:

  • back and limbs,
  • face and neck,
  • thorax, and
  • abdomen and pelvis.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • describe structures using appropriate anatomical and medical terminology
  • identify structures on images
  • identify structures on professionally dissected specimens or anatomical images
  • discuss applications of anatomical knowledge to clinical situations
  • demonstrate proficiency in critical observation and dissection skills.
