Project description
The project supported by the Carlsberg Foundation aims at understanding the molecular basis for salt tolerance of Chenopodium quinoa. The PhD student will work on characterizing cation transporters in this plant.  The work will include making an inventory of putative cation transporters in the genome of C. quinoa and functionally expressing selected transporters in yeast for characterization of their properties. At a later stage of the project the candidate may have the possibility to examine the phenotype of plants carrying mutations in the corresponding genes.
