PhD position in Prehistoric Archaeology

starting January 2018 at the Collaborative Research Center 806 “Our Way to Europe – Culture-Environment Interaction and Human Mobility in the Late Quaternary” at the University of Cologne (subject to the positive decision of the German Research Foundation). The contract will be funded for 3 years with a weekly working time of 23,90hours (60% position). Payment is based on the German TV-L E13 scale if terms and conditions under collective bargaining law are fulfilled

Assignments:

The PhD position is embedded in the research project “The Eastern Trajectory: Last Glacial Palaeogeography and Archaeology of the Eastern Mediterranean and of the Balkan Peninsula”. The PhD topic centers on the reconstruction of contextual areas of early modern human migration in selected key areas. The working area is in southeastern Europe.

Requirements:

Qualified candidates should hold a Master degree in Prehistoric Archaeology. Excellent knowledge in the field of lithic technology is required and proficiency in combined modeling of archaeological and geoscientific data strongly desired. Applicants should also show willingness to engage in intensive interdisciplinary cooperation within the Collaborative Research Center. Basic knowledge of German is recommended but not required.
