Norman H. Anderson Conference Travel Grants

The Department of Psychology at the University of Chicago is pleased to announce the application cycle for the Norman H. Anderson fund to support UG travel to conferences. Dr. Anderson is a social psychologist and Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Anderson received a B.S. in 1946 and M.S. in 1949 from the University of Chicago. The number of grants given will depend on the quality and scope of applications received. Students may apply for travel to a domestic conference in which the student is an author and will personally present a paper or poster. Funding will be capped at $800 (including a per diem not to exceed four days). Award amounts are based on availability of funds.

Students must make the argument that the travel would not ordinarily be funded by other sources. Applications will be evaluated based on excellence of the applicant's educational record, the merit of the proposal, and the feasibility and justification of the proposed budget. Applicants should submit a copy of the conference letter stating their presentation has already been accepted. Applicants who have received funding in the past should submit a brief paragraph of how the past award was spent.

To apply, you must be a current undergraduate student majoring in psychology. Please send a one-page write-up and one-page budget/budget justification to Mimi Maduff: mhalpern@uchicago.edu. Be sure to address the subject line as “Norman H. Anderson fund application.”

There will be three award cycles, with applications due the first Friday of Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters. Applications must be received by these dates to receive full consideration. Awardees will be notified within approximately six weeks from the time of application. Any changes made to the budget after the time of application will need to be reviewed by the selection committee.

The Department anticipates making multiple awards.
