CFP Released - EMREM Annual Symposium

The EMREM Symposium is an annual postgraduate and early career researcher conference held at the University of Birmingham and organised by the EMREM committee. The EMREM Symposium replaced the annual Hilton Shepherd Postgraduate Centre for Medieval Studies Symposium in 2011, and in 2012 the high demand for attendance necessitated the expansion of the conference to two full days, with six panels and a total of eighteen papers delivered by postgraduates from across the UK and beyond.

Each year, our symposium attracts over 60 delegates across the two days, which affords participants the opportunity to present research papers to a wide academic audience and to network with doctoral researchers and academics from other institutions.

We invite all postgraduates and ECRs working on the Medieval and Early Modern periods to submit papers for the 9th annual EMIREM Symposium at the University of Birmingham on 10th and 11th May 2019.

This interdisciplinary, two day event welcomes papers from history, literature, art, history, archaeology and music.

Topics for papers may include, but are not limited to:

  • Domestic and Political Spheres
  • The Court
  • Religious Institutions
  • The Market Place, Commerce and Fashion
  • Preserving the Past
  • The Stage and Screen
  • Towns and cities
  • New Worlds, Old Worlds

Please send proposals of approx. 300 words (or 1.000 words if applying as a panel) to: emremlorum@googlemail.com by Sunday 24th February 2019.
