Modeling Parallel Computing Systems Behavior
The HPC Group of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department is looking for a PhD student. We offer one such position in Parallel Computing. Start date: 1st August 2017. Modeling Parallel Computing Systems Behavior.
Your assignments
Study of the behavior, efficiency, and resiliency of parallel computing systems on the operational,
application, cost, and performance levels
- Develop models that capture the behavior of parallel computing systems to facilitate a holistic view and understanding of their behavior; the holistic System model has to be useful for new hardware releases
- Use monitoring tools throughout the various layers of the computing systems software stack
- Analyze the massive monitoring data to extract patterns of events and correlations between events
- Verify and validate the developed models by injecting the same events into a parallel system
- Employ own and acquire new computer science theoretical, simulation, and experimental skills
Your profile
A Master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computational
Science or Mathematics
- Good mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills
- Very good programming skills (C, C++, Java, Python, R, Spark, etc.)
- Very good knowledge of operating systems, in particular Linux
- Fluency in English (verbally and in writing), knowledge of German can be a plus
