DTIC-UPF (Barcelona) PhD fellowships 2017 Call for applications

The Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC) at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona seeks doctoral applications from talented students with a strong interest in research.

Presentation

The UPF DTIC PhD program offers advanced training in a broad range of topics in the field of Information and Communication Technologies: (1) cognitive and intelligent systems, (2) audiovisual technologies, (3) networks and communications, and (4) computational biomedicine.

This is an innovative and unique program, which aims to provide a bridge between various disciplines in this field. The DTIC PhD program has been steadily growing and currently hosts around 130 PhD students and 40 PhD supervisors. The program received a Mention of Excellence award from the Spanish Government in 2011.

About DTIC

Despite its short history, ETIC is already recognized for its high quality research output and its international impact. From the beginning, we have emphasized scientific excellence in all its activities. This clearly shows when reading the CVs of the faculty members in this web site. ETIC is leading in number of researchers from the ICREA program of the Generalitat de Catalunya and with most grants of the European Research Council. It is also the department that most contributes in making UPF the top Spanish university in terms of ICT R&D funding from European funds. These, and other indicators, have placed ETIC within the first 100 departments in the world, according to the recognized ranking of the ARWU/Shangai.  It is also the only computer science department distinguished in Spain as a Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness

The DTIC's research community include 350 people from more than 50 nationalities with different scientific background, organized around 15 research groups groups pursuing a wide range of topics. This creates a dynamic environment to do excellent research.

About UPF

The Universitat Pompeu Fabra was awarded in 2010 the distinction of International Excellence Campus by the Spanish Ministry of Education and it is widely considered to be one of the best universities in Spain (e.g. is the top Spanish university according to 2013 Times Higher Education Ranking).

UPF is located in Barcelona. Its excellent location on the shores of the Mediterranean, its gentle climate, its open, cosmopolitan character, its gastronomy and architecture make Barcelona an extraordinary place to live. The DTIC is sited in UPF's Communication Campus, which was opened in 2009 and is located within the vibrant 22@ technological district of Barcelona.
