Dedicated to the blessed memory of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky

The history of World War II in Ukraine and within the territory of the former USSR has been studied rather imperfectly. Researches of the Soviet scientists were usually ideologically engaged. While the scientists from Europe and America almost did not have access to many collections of the documents, so their texts could not claim to be complete. There are very little researches about the fate of civilians in this period have been carried out.

Therefore, we propose to hold an international conference and to gather leading historians of World War II. One of the major tasks of this event is to cover unexplored aspects of the theme: Soviet occupation of the western lands; policy of the Nazis and the Soviet authorities on the most vulnerable groups of the population (Jews, Roma, and people with mental health problems); local communities living under the occupation, and so on. The conference is to be dedicated to the blessed memory of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky who was trying his best to rescue everybody – Ukrainians, Poles, Jews…

The conference will be held on November 30 – December 1, 2015, at the National University of “Kyiv- Mohyla Academy” (Kyiv, Ukraine). The official languages of the event are Ukrainian and English.
