The Presidential LEEP Scholarship, Clark University

The passion to make a difference. The skills to change the world.

On Leap Day 2012, Clark University launched LEEP (Liberal Education and Effective Practice), a pioneering model of education that combines a robust liberal arts experience with authentic engagement in the world and workplace. In connection with LEEP, the Presidential LEEP Scholars Program was also introduced.

Presidential LEEP Scholars are relentlessly curious, have an appetite for learning, and are eager to make their marks in the world. They are driven to develop new ideas, to grapple with issues of importance, and to engage with others on shared goals. Presidential LEEP Scholars persevere through setbacks, draw constructive ideas from diverse sources, and find creative solutions to daunting problems. They will be among our top applicants academically and will demonstrate drive, creativity, and the passion to tackle complex challenges at home and abroad.

Should you apply to be a Presidential LEEP Scholar?

Ideal Presidential LEEP Scholar candidates are ambitious students whose high school records place them at the top of Clark University's applicant pool. If you are eligible, you should demonstrate a strong desire to pursue a demanding academic schedule, collaborate with peers and professors, meet ambitious career and life goals and join a community of scholars with an unparalleled commitment to global change.

What can a Presidential LEEP Scholar expect?

A full ride. Presidential LEEP Scholars receive full tuition, room, and board for four years (with yearly scholarship renewal contingent on a student maintaining a strong academic record at Clark) as well as the chance to complete a master's degree as a fifth-year student—completely tuition-free. If you are awarded the scholarship, you will also receive stipends to complete your LEEP Project.

To make an impression. This prestigious honor gives you access to incredible learning experiences—and is an impressive addition to your resume. Before graduation, you will complete a LEEP Project, demonstrating mastery of the five LEEP learning outcomes, including the ability to integrate skills and knowledge and to solve complex problems through creative thinking, collaboration and persistence.

The world at your feet. Whether interested in economics, molecular biology, environmental sustainability, theater studies or community development, you have the resources and opportunities to explore your interests in depth. You'll take control of your education, connect with pioneers in their fields and develop skills to drive tomorrow's innovations.

A circle of support. Faculty. Alumni. Career advisers. Business and community leaders. At Clark, you are surrounded by people eager to help you apply your talents. With the guidance and mentorship of experts, you will design an ambitious academic track that includes interdisciplinary courses, internships, research projects and study abroad experiences.

A community that cares. Just as Clark is known as a university that changes lives, its graduates are known for changing the lives of others. You will collaborate with and be inspired by students, faculty, administrators, alumni and industry professionals who are as passionate as you are about creating a more just, equitable and sustainable world.

Transformative internship experiences. You will work in Communities of Effective Practice—multigenerational, interdisciplinary groups—on a particular task or topic, such as assisting in consultations with local entrepreneurs, helping to analyze the results of a psychology study or collecting field-based data on climate change.

A chance to lead the way. Presidential LEEP Scholars were among the first students to benefit fully from the LEEP experience, and they help shape this program for future students. They will forge new opportunities, demonstrate the effectiveness of integrating liberal education and effective practice, and help redefine the possibilities of higher education nationwide.
