Terra Vivente Art Studio Residency Call for Artists, July-August 2017, Italy

Publish Date: Jan 17, 2017

Deadline: Feb 01, 2017

The Terra Vivente Art Studio residency runs only in July and August. Artists are invited to spend one month (July or August) in the village of San Potito Sannitico in the province of Campania. A small group of artists come together to share a work space and living space. The mandate of the studio is to foster interaction between guest artists and the community. Preference is also given to artists whose work embraces community interaction and/or environmental sustainability.

New Opportunities for 2017

Please be sure to read through the website to have a clear picture of what the residency is about and where it is located, and send a complete application by February 1, 2017.

There is plenty to absorb in both town and in the region. There are many villages to explore, as well as hiking in the mountains or visits to the ocean. San Potito may be small, but it has many cultural events including a public art festival and a film festival. Community engagement allows visiting artists to learn about the local culture while bringing enrichment to the local scene. Residency artists participate in exhibitions and other events. There are many opportunities to get involved with the community. With agriturismos and home gardens in abundance, San Potito citizens live the ‘slow food’ movement.

Dates and fee: July 1-31 or August 1-31, 2017 850 Euros

The residency has four spaces in two two-bedroom apartment, studio attached. The fee of 850 Euros covers the cost of the accommodation, use of the studio and transportation to and from the train station for arrival and departure.

An exhibition will be held at the end of the month. Residency participants will have the opportunity to participate in events associated with the Fate Festival in San Potito, a festival of public art, as well as events in Guardia Sanframondi, a town close to San Potitio, such as Vinalia, the wine festival that runs August 4-10 every year. Of note in August 2017 is the Riti Settennali, the seven-year rite that takes place in Guardia Sanframondi. Other festivals occur throughout the summer in many of the nearby villages. These usually centre around a local food or a saint’s day.

How to apply

The Terra Vivente Art Studio residency hosts a maximum of four artists over a one month period.  The fee of 850 Euros covers the cost of accommodation and the use of the studio. Artists must cover the cost of their own art supplies, food and transportation. The studio does its best to support projects, providing guidance in acquiring materials, seeking information, making connections within the community.

To apply, please download the application form below and send that with 5-10 examples of your work and a CV or bio. If you have trouble downloading the word document, please send Helena an email.
