PhD scholarship in Modelling for Wind Turbine Rotors

DTU Wind Energy at the Technical University of Denmark has a vacancy in the Aerodynamic Design Section” at DTU Risø Campus.

The section (AER) focuses on aerodynamic and aero-acoustic modeling and experimental research for airfoil and blade design and optimization and implements the research in cooperation with industry, in software tools and in courses.

The research includes CFD and fluid-structure coupling for Aeroelastic design of wind turbines in wind farms including effects from wakes and terrain, experimental investigations in wind tunnels and full-scale and aerodynamic noise modelling.

Responsibilities and tasks

The objective of the proposed PhD study is to combine existing measurements of laminar/turbulent transition from the DAN-AERO Exp. and other available measurements from wind tunnels with the modeling capability of the EllipSys3D to investigate details of the transition process for modern large scale rotors, and further validate the computational approach.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.

A good knowledge of aerodynamics, prior experience with CFD and Fortran programming is preferred.
