General Description
The summer school is intended for PhD students, post-docs and junior and senior faculty members. The aim is to provide young researchers with a detailed overview of the main methods used in empirical and theoretical research in development economics. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss and present their own research projects with leading researchers in a relaxed and open atmosphere.
Structure
The main components will be lectures and presentations by leading researchers and participants' presentations. Topics include
- Households (families, human capital and poverty) and firms,
- Finance, property rights, labor markets/institutions, farm/firm productivity,
- Political economy and governance,
- Behavior and Networks.
Selected papers and research projects by participants will be presented and discussed during the day. We encourage all participants to submit either complete papers or detailed proposals, raising the conceptual and methodological problems that they face and that they would like to discuss. Other partecipants who do not wish to present a paper are also welcome.

Graduate students and post-docs are asked to pay a fee of €500. Faculty members will be asked to pay a fee of €600. If participants are coming with family members they may ask for special accommodations either in apartments or other forms contacting Andrea Armellini at Benatours (sarah.gore@monash.edu) for assistance. Participants are asked to stay for the entire duration of the summer school. If it not feasible, please specify the duration of the stay in the “note” field in the application form. We will give priority to participants who stay for the entire duration. Partecipants who wish to present a paper are asked to follow the procedure below. a) Fill out the application form. b1) A short CV. c) No later than April 15th the complete paper or a detailed and well-developed research proposal, should be uploaded (pdf file). Other perspective participants who are interested in attending the workshop but do not mean to present a paper are required to fill in the application form only (step a). The application should be submitted not later than April 15th, 2016 (Italian time). Admissions decision will be announced by May 2nd, 2016. All applicants will be informed by email about the selection results. You are asked to pay the fee within 15 days of acceptance, and no later than May 15th, 2016. Where does it take place?
The Summer School takes place at Palazzo Voi in smiling Prato, Tuscany.
Frequent bus and shuttle connections link the Florence Airport i(Peretola) or others international airports such as Pisa, Rome, Bologna or Verona. Hotels are located in the Prato citadel inside the city walls.
