The Department of Environmental Science and Analytical Chemistry is a multidisciplinary department that gathers about 200 faculty, researchers, doctoral students and support staff scientists, from diverse fields in the natural sciences, and over 30 countries, to study various environmental phenomena.
Project description
We seek a postdoctoral fellow with strong skills in in vitro toxicology, or in a closely related research field, to study effects of real-world environmental chemical mixtures in cells. This will involve work with established cellular assays in multiwell format and development of new assays such as image-based High Content Analysis (HCA) methods, to elucidate the health risk of environmental chemical mixtures found in individual human blood samples. The project will make effective use of existing infrastructure, including liquid handling robotics and High-Throughput Screening (HTS) technology, at SciLifeLab. The position is a two year postdoctoral fellowship fully funded by the Swedish Research Council Formas. The successful candidate will work as part of a bigger team involving toxicologists, analytical chemists, molecular biologists and bioinformaticians to understand the toxicological effects of environmental chemical mixtures in the human body.
Main responsibilities
The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Professors Oskar Karlsson and Jonathan Martin and work at SciLifeLab (Solna). The major objective will be to establish state-of-the art cellular assays to measure the cytotoxicity, epigenetic effects and endocrine disrupting potential of environmental chemical mixtures. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to plan, conduct, interpret and communicate the research and results.
Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
