St Antony’s College Swire Centenary & Cathay Pacific and SwireCathay Pacific Scholarships

The Swire Educational Trust has a longstanding relationship with St Antony's College and has over many years funded numerous scholarships for both students and Academic Visitors, as well as until 2014 funding the Swire Fellow Professor Rosemary Foot, now an Emeritus Professor at St Antony's College.

Am I eligible?

The scholarships are open to applicants who are permanent residents of Japan or China (for the Swire Centenary & Cathay Pacific awards) or Hong Kong (for the Swire/Cathay Pacific awards) who have completed the majority of their formal education in Japan (for Japanese permanent residents), China (for Chinese permanent residents) or Hong Kong (for Hong Kong permanent residents).

The scholarships will be awarded primarily on academic merit, although financial need may be taken into account.

Scholars must intend to return to Japan (for Japanese permanent residents), China (for Chinese permanent residents) or Hong Kong (for Hong Kong permanent residents) after completing their course of study. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to pursue a career in government, business, academia or a recognised profession.

Applicants must apply for admission to a graduate course of study that is offered by St Antony's College to start in 2016/17. St Antony's College accepts students in a wide range of subjects in the Social Sciences and Humanities Divisions but not in courses in the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences or Medical Sciences Divisions. Our graduate courses page gives a list of the subjects we do accept.

Please ensure you meet the requirements for entry to your course, including English language requirements. See the University's course guide for more information.

What does it cover?

100% of university and college fees, and a grant for living costs of £17,100 per year (2015/16 rate).

Economy airfares to and from London are provided at the beginning and end of the scholarship.

The award is made for the full duration of a student's fee liability for the agreed course. If your scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based upon satisfactory academic progress.

How do I apply?

In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must submit your application for graduate study to the University by the January deadline (8 or 22 January 2016 depending on the programme you apply to - please check the University's guidance on application deadlines) and you must have secured a place on your chosen programme of study by the expected final decision date (18 March 2016).

It would help if you select St Antony's College in the college choice section of the application form, though this is not compulsory.

You must also complete a Swire Scholarships application form, available to download at the bottom of this page, and email it to the Assistant College Registrar by noon UK time on Friday 8 April 2016.

Please note that incomplete and ineligible applications will not be considered for the Swire Scholarships. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we do not send emails acknowledging receipt of any applications which are incomplete or which are ineligible.

How will I know if I have been successful?

Following a meeting of the Swire selection committee at St Antony’s College, all nominations are reviewed by the Swire Educational Trust.  We hope to be able to email successful candidates in early May 2016.
