About the summer school

The main goal of the course is to give students a coherent knowledge of paleontology as well as to be familiar with the most important fossil groups used in micropaleontology and invertebrate paleontology.
Novosibirsk State University is located at the heart of Academgorodok, it is a world-famous research center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It was founded in 1960s in Siberian taiga as the birth place for new ideas and technologies. Now it’s a world-class research and educational cluster with 35 research institutes, innovative Technopark and University being the heart of this well-balanced system.

The main goal

The main goal of the course is to give students a coherent knowledge of paleontology as well as to be familiar with the most important fossil groups used in micropaleontology and invertebrate paleontology. Students will have an opportunity to work with authentic fossil material from collections of the Novosibirsk State University and to visit laboratory and collections of Trofimuk institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics. In order to be familiar with one of the most important part of paleontological study students will be accompanied for one day along sections of quarries of Novosibirsk Region.

The course is recommended for students interested in Natural Sciences
Good command of English is required

Skills and competences students will gain

  • Basic knowledge on theoretical paleontology
  • Ability to recognize main microfossil and invertebrate faunal groups
  • Basic knowledge on the methods and safety in a paleontological laboratory
  • Ability to work with section in field conditions
