School of Information Technologies Master of Data Science Entry Scholarship
This Scholarship was established to encourage and support high achieving candidates commencing their studies in the Master of Data Science in the School of Information Technologies within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies.
To be eligible, applicants must:
• have a full/unconditional offer for the Master of Data Science at the time of the Scholarship application closing date for Semester Two 2016 and subsequently enrol,
• be a graduate of a quantitative degree program which includes data science, computer science, mathematics statistics, engineering, physics, economics and finance, or other disciplines that are deemed quantitative by the relevant School Academic Director. As a guideline, the curriculum of a quantitative disciple should include a minimum of 12 credit points of mathematics or statistics at the tertiary level,
• have achieved a distinction average in their previous studies, and
• not have already commenced their studies in the Master of Data Science or transferred into the program from another postgraduate program.
Selection criteria
The Scholarship shall be awarded based on an applicant’s overall academic merit and performance in their quantitative subjects.
The Scholarship shall be awarded on the recommendation of the Associate Dean (Education), or their nominee and a nominated academic from the School of Information Technologies.
The Scholarship is tenable for one year only for full-time students. Parttime students will receive pro-rata payments based on the number of credit points undertaken each semester until the $6000 Scholarship amount is exhausted. Payments shall be made after the census date of each semester.
Full-time students will receive their payments in two equal instalments. Ongoing payments are subject to satisfactory academic progress deemed to be a high credit average (70%) or above each semester.
Deferment of the Scholarship is not permitted.

Eligibility
a. The applicant must have a full/unconditional offer of study at the University of Sydney for the Masters of Data Science at the time of the Scholarship application closing date for the relevant semester it is being offered.
b. Applicants must have achieved a distinction average or above in their previous tertiary studies to apply. If an applicant has completed postgraduate studies in addition to an undergraduate program, they must have a distinction average in both unless the undergraduate program is unrelated to quantitative degree program.
c. Applicants must also be a graduate of a quantitative degree program. A quantitative discipline includes Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Economics and Finance or other disciplines that are deemed quantitative by the relevant School Academic Director. As a guideline, the curriculum of a quantitative discipline should include a minimum of 12 credit points of mathematics or statistics at the tertiary level.
d. Students who have already commenced their studies in the above named program in the Faculty, or that transfer into that program from another postgraduate program are not eligible.
