Scholarships for Developing Countries at University of Pavia, Italy

In order to promote international co-operation, particularly with Developing Countries (rif.World Bank list), the University of Pavia and EDiSU (Institute for the Right to University Studies) are offering for the year 2016 l() scholarships  for visiting  scholars  for a  period  of stay of 4 to 10 weeks at the University of Pavia.  Scholarship  includes  travel  (economy class’), board and lodging expenses and  a pocket money of 150.00 Euro (gross) per week.

ELIGIBILITY  CRITERIA

Scholarships are designed for both junior and senior members of Universities in Developing Countries or members of major research centres  and  international  organisations  or institutions with specific interest in the field of development studies.

Applicants   must   have  at  least  two  years  of  either  teaching  experience  or  activity   in international organisations and institutions.

CICOPS scholarships are foreseen for research collaboration in the short period in order to encourage the mobility of researchers from developing countries. Applicants enrolled in a Doctoral or Postgraduate Course at an Italian University are not eligible to apply.

Each scholar will be asked to be available for contacts with staff and students.

APPLICATIONS AND DEADLINE

In order to encourage contacts with staff and students, the period of stay should take place within the following dates: January- July 12 2016 and September 191h — December 16 2016.

Together  with  the  online  form,  each  applicant  should  email  to  CICOPS  (cicops@unipv.it)

  1. Invitation letter  from  the  professor  or  researcher  with  whom  she/he  intends  to

Applications without curriculum vitae and invitation letter won’t be taken into consideration.

 Pre-paid tickets cannot be modified once  issued.

EVALUATION AND SELECTION

A decision  will  be taken  by a Committee composed  of the  President  of CICOPS  and two members designated by the Rector by June 30uI 2015.

Scientific and professional value being equal, preference will be given  to  applicants employed at Universities/Institutions linked to University of Pavia with a pre-existing Cooperation   Agreement   (International   Collaborations  at   University  of  Pavia: http://www.unipv.eu/site/en/home/international-policy/partnerships.html)

and to applicants from lower income economies, according to the World Bank list.

The Committee will rank the candidates and the scholarships will be assigned according to a principle of rotation among the Departments.

The Committee reserves the right to check the validity of declarations and supporting documents asking the submission of appropriate documentary  evidence  in  original  or certified copy. False statements may lead to the exclusion from the selection process and / or from the award of the scholarship.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

 The scholarships will be assigned according to the following conditions:

 a) Selected scholars must confirm acceptance of the scholarship and of its conditions within 20 days of receipt of the written communication of their successful application, together with the exact dates of the requested

If a candidate fails to confirm acceptance, he will lose the right to the scholarship that will be awarded to the next in ranking.

 b) Once received the declaration of acceptance of the scholarship, the University will:

  • pay the pocket money upon the scholar’s arrival in Pavia;
    cover costs associated with travel, board and lodging;
  • indicate the University College for the period of residence;
  • provide a card for meals at a University canteen;
  • guarantee access to all the necessary facilities during the period of stay - libraries,computer facilities - including all services of the Department to which the scholar is associated;
    take out an health insurance policy and an insurance against accidents.

 Any fees incurred for the issuing of an entry visa into Italy will be at scholars’ expense.

c) At the end of the study period in Pavia scholars must submit to CICOPS a report on the

work done at the host Department and copies of any articles or publications.
