Application process

Admissions Process and Dates

The application period for the MA in Digital Media, Communication and Journalism starts on the 1st of February of each year. The application platform will remain open till September 10.

There is no fixed closing date, however, since the program operates a rolling admisssions system. This means that admissions decisions will be made from the start of the application process and will continue to be made for as long as there are available places in the program. The maximum number of places in the program, for all three pathways, is 45. As a result, applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible for the earlier we receive your application, the sooner a decision can be made and a place can be secured. Admissions decisions are made on complete files only. As soon as your application is processed, we will send you an email with your application number and details of any additional documents needed. If there are any missing or illegible documents, you will need to submit these before your application proceeds to the next stage. Once an application is complete, an applicant is notified in approximately one month of the decision.

To begin the process, we recommend verifying you satisfy the entry requirements before accessing the online application form. In order to complete its evaluation, the Selection Committee reserves the right to interview candidates (in person or via teleconference) and/or ask for samples of recent written academic work. Decisions on admissions are made on the basis of academic merit and the availability of places. The decision sent to you will be one of the following: An unconditional offer: You satisfy all of the academic conditions required before entry and we are offering you a place. A conditional offer: You are offered a place if you satisfy certain conditions, such as English language or degree results. You are on a waiting list: More time will be needed before we make a final decision, usually in order to compare your application with a wider field of others received later on. You will be notified of our final decision by the end of August.

You are on a reserve list: A limited number of applicants will be made a late offer, should a place become available. The reserve list is not ranked. We will send final decisions to reserve listed applicants by the end of August. We are unable to offer you a place: You do not satisfy some essential academic or language condition, or that the program is already full. In the latter case, you will be given the opportunity to be considered for a place for the following year. The decision is final and is not open to appeal.

Tuition fees

For the academic year 2016/7 tuition fees are set at € 3.000. These are paid directly to the bank account of the Research Committee of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, or online (MasterCard, Maestro or Visa) in three equal installments (of € 1.000 each), at the beginning of each semester Payment is due on the following dates:

  • Friday 7 October 2016
  • Friday 10 February 2017
  • Friday 9 June 2017

In the event that students and nationality groups have exceptional circumstances a different payment plan can be arranged, after special agreement with the Secretariat.

Scholarships and financial aid

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication awards up to a total of 6 scholarships annually (up to 2 for each pathway) to candidates who have already been given an unconditional offer and can provide evidence of genuine financial need.

Candidates should apply for these scholarships until August 31, 2016, and, if selected, they are liable for reduced tuition fees i.e. € 1.000, payable in three equal installments on the aforementioned dates. In addition, every academic year 3 scholarships are awarded to the students that have the top overall grades in each pathway, upon the completion of the 1st semester of their studies.

These scholarships take the form of a fee-waiver for the remainder of their studies, i.e. are equivalent to the amount of € 2.000. In the event that the students awarded the scholarship have paid their tuition fees in advance, they receive a refund of the aforementioned amount. Applicants are strongly advised to seek information about the educational agreements that exist between their country of origin and Greece, since these typically include the award of grants for study in Greek Universities.

Another option for financial support for your Master Studies in our School is the Erasmus+ Master Loans which is being established in cooperation with the European Investment Fund (Part of the EIB Group) offered to higher education students from any Erasmus+ program countries. The loan is up to €12.000 for a one-year Master’s course in a destination country different from your country of residence, and from where you obtained your Bachelor’s degree. For detailed information about the procedure please visit the official Erasmus+ Master Loans page.

Accommodation The School of Journalism and Mass Communications is located in the heart of the busy market center of the city of Thessaloniki. In the vicinity of the School there is available a wide variety of hotels, which can accommodate the students. The School can assist by arranging for specially reduced prices for a year-long stay.
