Royal Institute of International Affairs Academy Asia Senior Fellowship

Chatham House is pleased to invite applicants for the Academy Asia Senior Fellowship in the Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership in International Affairs at Chatham House.

The Academy Asia Senior Fellowship is open to established leaders and practitioners from Afghanistan, Australia, the People’s Republic of China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan and South Korea.

The fellowship offers an opportunity to further develop an understanding of, and approaches to, addressing the political, economic and social issues facing Asia and the world.

Candidates can be drawn from sectors ranging from academia to NGOs, business, government or the media. Fellows will be based at Chatham House in London, one of the world’s leading international affairs institutes. The fellowship will begin in February 2017 and will last six months.

The 2016/17 application window is now open and will close on Tuesday 31 May 2016.

Research topics

The fellows will be hosted by and based in research teams at Chatham House, either the US and the Americas Programme, International Law Programme, Centre on Global Health Security, Asia Programme, Energy, Environment and Resources Department or International Security Department. During their fellowship, the fellow will conduct a research project of their own design on one of the research topics below.

Research topic within the US and the Americas Programme:

  • The future role of the United States in Asia

Research topic within the International Law Programme:

  • Addressing refugee protection challenges

Research topic within the Centre on Global Health Security:

  • Infectious diseases and the extractive industry – One Health approaches

Research topic within the Asia Programme:

  • Prospects for regional cooperation in South Asia

Research topics jointly hosted by the Energy, Environment and Resources Department and the Asia Programme:

  • India’s growth in resource demand and trade implications
  • Cooperation on transboundary water management in Asia

Research topic hosted by the International Security Department:

  • Internet governance in Asia

Research topic within the Russia and Eurasia Programme:

  • Chinese ambitions in the former Soviet region
